Stuffing Recipe

Someone please help! I am hosting Christmas this year and my MIL loves stuffing. I have her recipe, but she usually cooks hers in the turkey, which I personally find disgusting. Last year, I asked her to make it ahead of time but she said that it tasted dry (she wasn't being mean at all but just didn't like it as much made that way). I would like to try a new recipe that she might like better.

Does anyone have a tried and true recipe for a great stuffing that isn't cooked inside the turkey? If so, please share and help me impress her and show her a good stuffing can be made that doesn't get cooked in the bird. Thanks!

Re: Stuffing Recipe

  • I have one. Stuffing is what's inside the turkey, dressing is the same recipe but put around the turkey.

Make 1 9x13 pan of cornbread and set aside
1 chub of sausage (sage flavored is good) browned and set aside
2 loaves of french bread torn up
    1 bunch of celery chopped
    1 onion chopped
    2 raw eggs
    1-2 cups of water
salt, pepper and sage seasoning for flavor

In your roasting pan rip up the cornbread and french bread. Add your chopped celery, onion and cooked sausage. Stir it all together. Crack your eggs over it, stir till mixed will again. Pour enough water over all of it till it's a little sticky. You may need more than 2 cups. If you don't want to use water you can use chicken broth. Season with salt, pepper, and sage.

If you're going to bake this without the turkey then cook it at 350 for an hour.

If you're going to bake this with the turkey then stuff the turkey in the roasting pan and put the remainder of the dressing around the turkey. The juice from the turkey will add flavor and make the dressing moist.

    HTH.

  • Here is mine. I've made a few variations on it, including adding sausage.
