CP: Another u/s?

Am I the only one not getting another ultrasound? I've heard a lot of people (on here and IRL) that get a growth u/s in the third tri. I got one at 26 weeks because of a hospital visit, but besides that I was only supposed to get my dating u/s and a/s.

Re: CP: Another u/s?

  • My doctor does a growth sono between 31-33 weeks.  I go for mine tomorrow, and we will get to briefly see our little guy in 3D/4D.  I am so excited.

  • I'm not considered high-risk (even though I have already had 4 ultrasounds and I'll have at least one more). My dr wants a growth ultrasound at 36-37 weeks to check size (baby was 83% at my last u/s, and also to check a possible kidney issue. So I'll have at least one more...I'm excited to see the LO!
  • I will, but only as having an amnio to check for the baby's lung developement and then scheduling my c section.

  • Yes but because I'm high risk! I think I should get some benefit out of it so I'm very grateful that I get to see our baby so often! I honestly don't know if I even know how many I've had so far. 10? I know I get at least 4 more.

  • I've measured right on track almost to the day for the entire pregnancy, but yesterday at my 32 week appointment the Dr. said she wants to get a baseline growth ultrasound before baby starts dropping.

My best guess is that I'm pretty small (5'3" 110 lbs pre-pregnancy), so she wants to make sure baby doesn't start measuring ahead or behind.  She also said that she'd love for me gain another 10 lbs before baby is born even though I've already gained 24.5.

  • I got another at 28 weeks, but only because they had to check to make sure my placenta previa had resolved.  I won't get any others.
  • Its standard with my OB to get one in 3rd tri. I asked her why out of curiosity, and she said she just likes to make sure baby is progressing as they should, all the measurements check out, and they do an estimation of how big baby will be at delivery. Also they know the parents are anxious to get a final look before delivery, sine the last time was 12-15 weeks prior!

Can you elect to have one?

  • I had one at 29 weeks, only because I was in a car accident and they wanted to check to make sure everything was ok.

  • I believe I'll have one more before my c-section, but I'm not 100% sure.

  • I have no idea! I've been measuring 2+ weeks ahead since the a/s, so I would assume they would want one sometime soon!

  • I don't get to have another ultrasound either! My Dr typically only does one at 20 weeks unless he has concerns about the baby. I had one around 6 weeks and 12 weeks because of some problems, and then the normal 20 week ultrasound. I'd like to have another one just to see the baby but I don't think my Dr would order one for that reason!

  • I had my last ultra sound at about 20 weeks... I won't have another at all because they are happy with babies growth, I'm not high risk and everything looks good right now. My ob doesn't generally do one unless there is a reason to do so after the 2 weeks one.

  • Everything is good with my pregnancy, but my doc does a growth u/s at 36 weeks.  I'm happy because we haven't seen our LO in so long.  I would like some reassurance that everything really looks good.

  • my doc said i wouldn't have anymore unless there was an issue, such as GD....i secretly hoped for a minor case of GD so that i could see baby again...but boooooo. i'm healthy. lol.

  • I get my "last" one in 3 weeks because we are monitoring a Fibroid that is in the way of the birth canal. If it hasn't moved I'm a automatic c/s.

  • I want to VBAC and they will need to confirm that baby is in the right position before they will let me try (I will probably have it done at 36 weeks).

  • I had one at 31 weeks because I was measuring small- on that u/s baby was in 14th percentile for growth so I'm having another u/s next week to see where she is and make sure she's not dropping off in growth. I will most likely have another one 3 weeks after that as well. I also have high BP so they're watching everything very carefully.

After 2 1/2 years TTC, 3 IUI's, endo, and a lap, a surprise BFP brought us Alexandra Marie!

  • I'm having one more, at 35 weeks. It was originally scheduled because he was positioned sideways for a long time and didn't seem to want to move head down. I found out at my appointment this morning that he has finally rotated to head down (YAY) but we still get to have the ultrasound at the next appointment :) They also want to check on his size since my thyroid levels have been a bit elevated (I'm seeing an endocrinologist for hypothyroidism).

  • I had a non-routine U/S last week because my fundal height was measuring behind and the doctor wanted to check on LO's growth.  Turns out he's plenty big.  He's actually measuring about 2 weeks ahead.  I guess I can't complain that he's big, but I still look small for 34 weeks pg :)

  • I'm not high-risk buy my doctor ordered me a growth ultrasound with a high-risk doctor. I think it's just because the high-risk doctor has the equipment he wants to use. I think I'll be getting more than one though because he requested 'serial growth' and from what I understand, that means they have to track her growth over a few weeks. But I might be completely wrong about that.

  • I have at least one more at my 33 weeks appt to check LOs position, more if he looks breach to check on how things are progressing
