Single Parents

Christmas delimma.

So STBX has the girls on Christmas Eve from 8 PM until 4 PM on Christmas day.  I have them on Friday until 8 PM on Christmas Eve (this year).

Should Santa come on Christmas Eve day and have our Elf on the Shelf send a letter to them that morning explaining that he told Santa that they would be with Daddy so Santa came early to mom's?

OR

Should I do it the day after Christmas?  Once I pick them up on Christmas we have to go to family's for Christmas dinner and probably won't be done until 9ish and they will fall asleep in the car on the way home (they are 2 and 5)

Re: Christmas delimma.

  • Some families are able to co parent enough that Santa comes to the house they slept at on Christmas eve and when they get to the other parent's house it's only the family gifts.

    OR

You can go the route I went with my children and don't start a Santa tradition at all.  I explained that we celebrate Christmas and part of Christmastime is peace, love, tolerance and the good feelings associated with giving both gifts and our time.  I also explained that Santa is the representation of all those feelings and some people are so moved they dress up as Santa or put up photos of Santa to help remind everyone of the spirit of Christmastime so we can all enjoy it more and throughout the year.  This helps explain why there are santas in every mall and outside the Walmart/target etc.
