Intimacy at 20 weeks

My doctor gave me a 24-week cutoff point for two things 1) exercise; and 2) sex. I feel super-cautious about both of these things, but the sex thing is especially troubling. I would really like to try and have sex with my husband, but already at 20 weeks I'm afraid to. I feel like that 24 week point is just an arbitrary number that they choose, and that really, something bad could happen just as easily at 20 weeks. Anyone have any advice or experience on this?

We're still doing it, lying on our sides and spooning works easiest. My doc hasn't said anything about a sex cutoff.

I also had this cutoff out there, until I was put on pelvic rest at 19w when I lost my mp. It can definitely irritate your cervix and Oing can cause issues too. It just depends on how this weighs against any issues you are now or may soon be having. I didn't have any issues before 19w, so we did, but honestly in hindsight it wasn't worth it. As much as I've been dying to the last four months. Just one of many sacrifices we have to make...

My MFM only said I'd be cut-off from sex if my cervix was shortening. They also said that starting at 20 wks to use condoms to avoid any chance of PTL (i'm high risk for PTL).

Why do you you have a cutoff. I see that you have a previous loss so I'm assuming it's from that but I figured I'd ask

At my OB, this is std. w/twins... (also no travel in addition to these)

My sex cut off was 24w as well. My OB said sperm can soften the cervix and she didn't want to take any chances with twins. No idea if that's true, I just listened. Never had cervix issues, I think it was a precaution?

We stopped having sex really early, like way before my cutoff. I just wasn't interested. Might be because I threw up several times a day for the first 26w.

My MFM didn't tell me about a "cut-off"date but I cut my husband off around 20. I know that's bad but I am so sh*t scared I'm all set! I help him out in other ways though at least.

really you ladies are getting some... we just burst out laughing after about 3 positions, something is always in the way or i need too many pillows to support me... we do have just as much fun with our short lived attempts.

I was on pelvic rest pretty much the whole pregnancy. We haven't had sex since March. Get it in while you can!

Relaxed doctor or not, this would make me super nervous. You don't have a ticker so I don't know how far along you are, but I ended up in triage at 24 weeks and in my OB office for monitoring several times around 20-28 weeks. I don't think you could have made me fly to an island at that point and take those chances.

It seems like there's an infinite variety of recommendations from doctors (as usual). I guess I'm just going to go with my gut... literally. My husband said he'd do it, but he's leaving it up to me to make the decision. I told him that was a bunch of crap to put the burden solely on me to decide --since I obviously don't know what the answer is and have just the same limited access to information as he does. Oh, well. I'm going to play it safe and say no sex.

I never had a cutoff. I tried to get that shiit to put me into labor so I could avoid induction but my cervix wouldn't budge

I never had a cut off either.

The more into the 30's that I got (week wise) the less it happened. I can't remember the latest in my pregnancy that we had sex.

Regarding what PP said, yes it requires some shifting to make sure your're comfortable and perhaps straying from your usual positions , but it's not rocket science!

If you want to do it, do it. If you don't, don't. I can promise you though that if you're nervous about doing it and you do it anyway, it won't be any fun!
