Food allergies

I'll try to ask the pedi about this when we go in (but DD will probably be flipping out like last time), but I thought I'd ask here sooner...

Has anyone's LO had a food reaction yet? What is the protocol? Do you medicate? How long before giving that food again?

Around 9 months we gave DD cinnamon apples from Chili's and her face got red splotches on it. We kept an eye on her and it went away after a couple hours. I've avoided cinnamon ever since.

Today I gave her scrambled eggs and the same thing happened. She's had them before (as well as pancakes, waffles, other things with egg ingredients) but I guess not enough to cause a reaction?

Re: Food allergies

  • To me, that would warrant a phone call to the pedi. I have no idea about allergies and I would want to hear what they say.

For what appears to be a non-harmful reaction like that I would just keep an eye on them, and let the pedi know either at your next visit or give them a call if you think they'd want to see her sooner. Obviously with an anaphylactic reaction they need immediate attention.

Neither of mine have ever had reactions to food. They both have had reactions to any sunblock other than the Neutragena Pure baby stuff. I gave them Benadryl for it because they seemed really uncomfortable (itchy, eyes watering and red splotchy welts on their face) The Benadryl worked within a half hour. I told the pedi and she said to just avoid it in the future.
