Anyone else's baby's head "way down there"?

I had my OB appt today (36w4d) and she did a quick u/s for me (she humors me sometimes with a quick scan bc she knows I like to see the baby).

She said "well the baby's head is down low.  WAY down low!"  I asked if this was bad and she said no.

I have noticed that I'm getting pains more often in my pelvis.  I was wondering if this means I've dropped.  But, baby's butt and feet are still curled up right under my right breast/upper ribcage, which would lead me to think I haven't dropped yet.

Anyone else carrying baby really low?  Or the head is way down low?

Re: Anyone else's baby's head "way down there"?

  • My baby's head is low...I can literally put my hand right about my pubic bone (I guess) and feel her head moving.  And now she is SERIOUSLY pressing down on my bladder. When I go to pee, it's a 2 second stream, but I felt as if I had to let out a gallon!!! Ha.

It doesn't LOOK as if I've dropped though, although I can feel her feet in my rib cage, it doesn't hurt as bad as it once did.

  • I started feeling like this yesterday, still having some trouble breathing and feeling the baby's feet way up high but the amount of pressure down low multiplied yesterday. I don't know what it's going to be like when she fully drops, but it's not gonna be a pretty thing to watch me walk after she does.
  • This LO has pretty much been "way down there" this entire pregnancy. For all the u/s we had, her head was jammed in my pelvis, and I am pretty sure she has stayed that way up until now. When the OB feels around to see positioning, she always has to go really low to find what she *thinks* is the head.

I can also tell she is settling in low because my pelvic region hurts. Sometimes I feel like it's going to split in two. I'm ok with this, because it means she's preparing for the birth!!

I go for another appt today and she will do an u/s if she can't feel positioning for sure. I hope she can't, because I'd love to see LO again :)

  • My baby's head...I can't imagine it going any lower unless it is coming out...and it's not coming out that way!  Lol.

  • It totally freaks me out where I feel hiccups at.  I joke with DH that it's very close to the exit.  I'm also having pelvis pain, especially when I go from sitting to get up.  I haven't felt much activity at all, so I get very excited to feel her little hiccups!

I've been carrying low the whole time.  My OB had to do a quick u/s last appointment too because she couldn't feel the head.  I guess she is protected by the public bone.

  • My doc keeps telling me the same thing, and I know I have dropped, I just don't feel like it.  I still feel kicks to the ribs occasionally.  What I hate is when she says "Wow, her head is REALLY low" and it gets my hopes up that she is coming now. LOL. SO ready to meet this little one!

  • Apparently I'm at "pelvic station 0".  He literally can't get any lower until he is coming out.

Did they discover that during an internal? (Sorry if that is a stupid question)

  • I just had an appt yesterday and my OB said baby's head was very low.  It just means baby is working his way down.  Of course at this stage, baby can come any day, so the further south he goes now, the less he will have to go during actual delivery.  But I think we are all just getting anxious and excited for baby to come!  I personally am hoping DS will come in Dec, not Jan!

  • Ya, my ob sent me for a u/s a month or so ago because my fundal height measurement hadn't changed.  Turns out he just dropped so low that was why the height was the same!
  • My LO's head is low, I have had a lot of pressure & discomfort in my pelvis for the last few weeks. I can still feel his butt & feet up by my ribs too.

Have you had any internal exams yet? I was 1cm at my appt last Friday, I'm curious to see if there will be a change this week.

  • Not a stupid question - Yes, I had an internal last week and this week which she was able to tell me where baby is and how far I am, etc.

  • I had an internal done today and dr said she could feel the head but did not give a station. I don't look like I have dropped but I have been feeling pressure and dilated to a 3 so that makes sense.

  • I haven't had an internal yet. She said if I really wanted one I could, but I don't really care?

I also kind of wonder how accurate internals are.  Seems totally subjective.
