Santa is bringing ds a new bed for Christmas. Dh and I keep going back and forth between a twin bed (possibly with a trundle) or a bunk bed. Ds just turned 3 in September, so I kind of think he is still too young for a bunk bed. However, we may need to move dd (now 1) when/if we have a 3rd child. Dd would probably be close to 3 when that happens. I still think 2 twin beds would be better, but bunk beds might make more sense because of the room size. Thoughts? What did you upgrade to?
Re: Upgrading from a toddler bed: twin bed or bunk bed?
I have/had the same dilemma. The room the boys need to share is on the small side and two twins in there is going to be tight. I soooo wanted to do bunk beds. Unfortunately though, Leo will only be 3.5 and Charlie 2.5 when the new baby arrives. Even if I did 100% trust Leo (which I would almost be tempted to do) on the top, I would NEVER trust Charlie, and he could very easily climb up there in the night. I can just see them goofing around or getting in a fight, and one ending up going over the side. Not something I want to be worrying about every night.
So I decided to suck it up and do two twins. I actually just built Charlie's this afternoon! I did consider a twin with trundle, but DH felt like it wouldn't be "fair" to Charlie, lol. I figured they only sleep in their rooms anyway, so it's ok if it's all bed. Maybe a few years down the road we'll "upgrade" to bunks. We'll just have to see how it goes.
What about getting bunk beds that can be set up individually? That way you can use one individual twin for now, and then "upgrade" to the fully constructed bunk bed when they are older for more space.
