Re: Vbac pain medications

  • I think all the pain medications are fine.  It's just the cervical ripening agents that are banned.

  • Same as pp. You can always use a foley bulb if you need cervix opening.

  • Someone told me stay away from the epi????
  • Several of us, myself included, had epidurals during our VBACs. I know of no issues with that.

  • Epis are fine but they are an intervention. And as many c-section moms know from past experience, one intervention leads to another. Once you get and epi, you are stuck in bed and it could possibly slow your progression. Since you are on a tight clock with a VBAC, it can work against you.

I am hoping to go med free just to give myself the best chance to VBAC possible.

  • Nubain is safe during a VBAC labor.  It is wonderful for "taking the edge off" and helping you get a bit of rest during a long labor.  That was all I needed to get things going again after 30+ hours of labor (contractions had begun to slow because my body was so tired).  With that and a whiff of Pitocin, I delivered about 2 hours later!
