Boss Frustration--Sorta Long

I love my job...probably more than I should. But dang, my boss thoroughly upset me today.

I have two bosses and he is the newer one to me.  He was supposed to go over my year-end review.  I filled out this eight page review (literally took me hours to word everything right and cover everything that I've done over the last year at our company).

So we go upstairs to our little conference room.  He starts by asking me to pretty much repeat everything that is in my review because he hasn't read it.  In process of reading and discussing my view points, his phone starts ringing, text messages are going off one after another, and he starts typing e-mails on his damn iPad. He wasn't listening to a damn thing.

In between his annoying electronic interruptions, he proceeds to tell me that my job is not going to include traveling next year as he originally promised it would as well as several other "little" changes.  I didn't even get a chance to react to any of this because he said that we would meet again next week and he would then comment on my review.  WTF...just a wasted meeting.

Oh...and then on the way back down stairs, he asked me if the stairs were too steep for "my condition".  Really?  Really????????

I don't get it...I've never had a review like that ever in my professional carreer.  I called DH crying because I was so upset about how everything went.

What do I even do/say when I'm supposed to be going on maternity leave in three weeks???

Re: Boss Frustration--Sorta Long

  • You're lucky you're getting a review!  I asked my boss if I'll be getting one because my last day is Jan 13th, he is gone after this week until the Jan 16th, so there is no time.  He said it has to wait until January, but he won't be around!  I know it sounds kind of selfish, but I really just want to know if I'm getting a raise or not, the extra money is going to help out during the 10 weeks of unpaid leave I'm getting

As for you, I'd talk to HR if you're that concerned about it.  Make sure you point out his "interupptions" during your actual review though.

  • I'd probably talk to HR and tell them your concerns. It's important for yearly reviews to be done and it doesn't sound like your boss put in the effort or time.
