Sensitive question re: miscarriage and milk supply

If anyone is up for answering? I am wondering if a miscarriage might decrease one's milk supply or dry it up altogether. I hope this question does not hurt anyone.

  • My supply did decrease.

  • I had 2 miscarriages - a blighted ovum and another w/o a fetal pole - while BFing DD1 but she was about 19 and 22mo with each and they were both noticed around 6 weeks and passed during the 7th weeks so very early.  I didn't notice a difference but if you were further along ie more hormonal changes, I would expect it could certainly cause breast tenderness leading to decrease nursing which would decrease supply along with the hormonal changes.  Sorry you are having to ask this question.
5/08- blighted ovum, spont ab; 2/20/09- epi, VAVD, Girl! breastfed 24mo; 10/10- blighted ovum, spon ab; 12/10- no fetal pole, Cytotec; 11/20/11- unmedicated SVD, Girl! breastfed 18mo; 11/7/13- unmedicated SVD, breastfed 18mo; 2/11/16- unmedicated SVD, exclusively pumping to at least a year.

  • Thank you for your answers and I'm so sorry for the losses you have both gone through.
