So we have a stash of cloth diapers we're going to use for baby #2 when she arrives. I've bought all pocket diapers (Huggabuns, Fuzzibuns and Kawaii square tabs.) I was also going to pick up a few velcro tab pocket OS as well.
My question is about the inserts - I've been told that hemp or bamboo is good, so I'm planning on picking up some of these. I also have some microfiber inserts. And I was thinking to get some prefolds for nighttime diapering. My question is how many inserts should I have on hand? I have 20 diapers....I know it's usually 1 insert per diaper, and two at nap time/nighttime (or two with a prefold?) So should I have about 40 on hand to start? More? Less?
I'm really trying to embrace cloth, but there is SO much to learn and I'm feeling really overwhelmed by it all!
Thanks!
Re: Another newbie question
I wouldn't worry too much about upping nighttime absorbency for a nb. You'll be up every couple of hours for feedings.
I'd start on the lower side in terms of inserts, and get more if you find you need them. You may not have a heavy wetter, in which case one insert may work. I've always had to do 2 during the day and 3-4 at night for DD.
Try not to feel overwhelmed... it gets easier with time
I have one insert for each diaper and stuff them right out of the dryer so they are ready to go. If you want/need to double up or try a higher absorbency, you can buy as needed later.
I tried to double stuff for night, but with a side lying baby - the pocket diapers always gapped and leaked with too much stuffing.
Did you get inserts with your diaper stash? If you have 20 diapers and 20 inserts, you'll be fine until you know what your LO needs.
