still sore 5 weeks later?

I'm 5 weeks pp and still having pain around my incision and lower belly.  I have my 6 week check up next week and plan on asking my doctor, but I'm wondering if I should call now?  It's not constant pain but when I'm standing or walking around a lot.  Is this normal?

  • I wasn't really completely pain free until about 8 weeks pp, and even then, it still hurt sometimes.

  • I am 5 weeks out and still have pain sometimes, especially where they either started or finished the cut, right at the ends.

  • Yes, it is normal. You were cut open! It will take several months to be 100% pain free.

  • Yes - normal.  Its major abdominal surgery and takes a while to heal + you're caring after a newborn.  I remember a few wks in I was feeling pretty good then all of a sudden it was like the skin hurt.  I guess just different stages of healing.  And if I overdid it - walked too far - busy that day then for sure I'd be popping some pain reliever and be more achey.  Listen to your body!  I remember my doctor saying don't pop the pills (also for breastfeeding you need to be careful) - but don't be a hero either!!  GL!!
  • I think the last time I felt sore (as in discomfort, not serious pain) was about 8 months pp.  At your point, I'd say what you are feeling is normal.

Yes EXACTLY! You just had MAJOR ABDOMINAL SURGERY, take it easy. I tried rearranging my living room at 5 weeks PP and was so sore that I couldn't move the next day! REST, life will be crazy the next few months.
