Breastfeeding

Pink Eye - Breastfeeding

caught Pink eye from DD so I'm assuming that it's the bacterial version. My doctor prescribed drops but the pharmacist said not to take it if nursing. (Even though I told the doc that I was nursing) Pharmacist looked up a bunch of alternatives and said that that they were not safe and advised to not take the medication or not nurse. Pumping is not an option for me.I called my natural homeopathic store to see what they would rec and they had no ideas. I am on Amox. for a sinus infection and the pharmacist said that this should help clear it up and to wait it for a few days to see. I just don't want to wait it out at Christmas. Anybody successfully treat pink eye when nursing? TIA

Re: Pink Eye - Breastfeeding

  • Have you tried putting breastmilk in your eyes? I know it sounds crazy, but breastmilk has been known to cure pink eye. BM has antibiotic properties to it.

  • I have never heard anything bad about using the drops.  DD gave me pink eye and we were both on different drops.

This.  I've done it.  Use a little medicine syringe with some breastmilk a few times a day.

  • TY gals- BM is next on my list to try - wasn't sure how ti go about administering it. TY for the description. I appreciate it!!
  • Yes to the BM in the eye, my dd gave me pink eye and had it herself (worse than me) I kept our hands washed and put BM in my eye several times a day it cleared up in about two days.. I didn't have it really bad but my daughter was worse and it cleared it up for her as well. The syringe idea is great I just squirted it on my clean finger and rubbed it in my eye when I did it!
