volvoX90 with twins and existing toddler?

im shooting in the dark here but im wondering if anyone here has the volvo X90 with 3 carseats?  we have a toddler and are expecting twins and wondering how this whole 3 rows of seating is going to work.  i dont expect it to get beyond a year/year and half bc that third row looks so small.

Re: volvoX90 with twins and existing toddler?

  • I just traded my Acura mdx which is similar in size to your car for a Honda odyssey minivan. We couldn't use the 3rd row if we wanted to fit the stroller and it was pretty tight with all three infant seats in the second row. My DH is 6'5 and he couldn't put his seat back far enough to be semi comfortable. You can probably make it work fine but you will probably want a bigger vehicle before too long!

  • I have a Hyundai Sonota, similar in size. DD is in a booster so it's almost impossible to put her between two infants seats (because it's impossible to buckle her in).

We can put up 1/2 the third row so I can still fit a stroller in there (but not much else). But that means she has to get in and out through the trunk (over said stroller!). I can't wait to try that in car line. She can't get out through the second row unless we take out an infant seat everytime (since you'd have to move part of the 2nd row forward).

I'm going to buy a seatbelt buckle extender and see if that helps, there will be some serious experimentation to do it. I don't want to give up my car. DH traded his VW GTI for a mini van. I forsee me driving it even though I prefer mine.

  • if you're willing to get the radian car seat it could work, DD will have a hard time going back to 5 point harness now.

  • I have the xc90. We are TTC #3 and we'll put the infant seat in 2nd row middle, convertible cs in 2nd row, behind driver and second convertible cs in 3rd row, behind passenger. Our twins will be FF by the time we conceive and I deliver.

Ive read that you can do 3 across the second row if you get the right seats.

With your set up I'd do 2 infant seats in row two (middle and behind driver) and convertible CS in third row FF behind passenger.

That will give you about 60% of your trunk space with the 60/40 split which is enough for a double stroller.

this is great.  we were going to do the 2/1 thing with the carseats but i wasnt sure of the set up.  so you are suggesting that we put the two babies in the 2nd row and the toddler (well he will be 3 then) in the third row?  right now, he has the graco My Ride carseat.  will that fit back there you think? for the infant carseats we like the graco snugride.  is there a reason why you cant do the infant carseat next to the convertible carseat in the 2nd row?

i know there wont be much room for anything else but i thought is that i cant (well, and wont) go grocery shopping/target shopping with all of those kids anyways, at least for awhile.  i figure i can put the stroller in the front seat.  bc for the first 3 months i will use the graco double snug rider - that's small.  we just wanted to make this work at least for a year.  and my husband loves this car.  (and okay, i like it a lot too).  we were hoping to get a Yukon in a little over a year, and keep the volvo as a second car.

  • I said the infant in the back because he can climb in without too much help and then you're just buckling. Versus climbing in to click/unclick. Also bc he'll be FF, so in my head that's easier? I don't know anything about your car seats - we have Chicco keyfits and Britax.
