Late Term and Child Loss

NILMDTS photo question

We lost Ava Renee on November 21, 2011, one day after my due date. They came and took photo's that night.  Yesterday was 4 weeks but we still haven't received our pictures. I was just wondering how long it has taken everyone else to receive their photo's and if I should "bother" the photographer more.

Re: NILMDTS photo question

  • I'm so sorry for the loss of your Ava.  It took almost 5 weeks for us to receive our photos.  They said 4, but it was actually more like 5.  Did you get the name/contact of your photographer?  NILMDTS is a volunteer program, so I think they *understand* how important these photos are.  I wouldn't feel bad for reaching out to s/he.  It's good business anyways to communicate.  I hope you get them soon!  I cried like a baby when I got mine....I've only looked at them a couple of times because they break my heart.  But they really are beautiful and I cherish them.

  • Yes we have her contact info.  Our photographer actually suffered a loss herself so I don't want to press too hard.  I just wasn't sure how long it should take, they didn't give us a time frame.  I also just assumed she didn't want to give them to us the week before Christmas. Even though we knew Ava had passed when they induced me, we had relatives take photo's of her birth so I have been able to look at those. They are tough to look at because she was so blue but gosh, she was perfect and beautiful so I do find some comfort in seeing her.

  • I would contact the person. I didn't have NILMDTS, but I had the hospital take some. They gave me the raw pictures before we left and it took a couple of weeks to get the edited ones back.

  • I didn't use NILMDTS because they couldn't get a hold of someone. Instead one of my nurses who does photography on the side took photos for me. It's been over 3 months and I still haven't heard back from her, so I definitely relate. I think you should call and ask when they think they will be done. I hope you get your pictures soon.

  • Mine took 9 weeks to get back. I read on the NILMDTS website that they encourage photographers to have edited images back to families by 8 weeks at the latest.
  • At the hospital the NILMDTS photographer told us 6-8 weeks.  It took the full 8 weeks to receive the photos.  (And to be honest, we weren't that impressed with the photos.  :(  It felt as if the photographer was there for hours snapping away.  When we got the photo cd there were only about 15 photos.  :( )

  • We got our first few pics within about two weeks. After that it took two emails and about 7 more weeks to get the rest of them. As hard as it was to wait, they are amazing. I'm so glad that we had them taken.
