My girls are 2 weeks old today and they will not sleep during the night. When we first brought them home they were great and slept straight through between each feeding. Now they cry every 10 minutes at times from about 10 pm till about 2 or 3 in the morning. My husband and I share the feedings since they get fed every 3 hours right now. I have been taking the late night ones because he has to be at work at 6 am. Every time I put them down in their swing, vibrating chair, or crib at night they sleep for maybe a half hour at most and then wake up. It goes on all night and I do not sleep and then I am home with them all day and usually don't have a chance to nap. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get them to sleep during the night? Even if it's for a few hours I would be so happy. I know this is all part of having them, but I have tried everything that I can think of and feel like I am losing my mind from being so sleep deprived. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!
Re: HELP They won't sleep at night!!
We used Healthy Sleep Habits, happy twins. What popped into my head after reading your posts, was that I used to make a big deal about morning - smile, stretch, announce good morning, open the shades and curtains and talk about starting the day. Then, at night time we had a consistent but short routine - blinds down, quiet sounds, sleepy time.
But, your abbies are just 2 weeks old. Hang in there!!!
I don't think there is a whole lot you can do at 2 weeks but I agree with the pp about keeping things dark at night and making sure they get lots of light and noise during the day - that's how they figure things out.
Where are they sleeping? Are you swaddling? It might help to make them more secure with a swaddle or a smaller sleeping space. We'd wrap ours pretty tightly and put them in the rock and play and used a sound machine at night.
1,00000 times this! Swaddling was key for getting us through. It was the only way they would sleep.
Someone did buy me that book. I guess I need to start reading that. Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
