Our nurses said that we weren't supposed to be using Baby Powder in Asher's Diapers...???? She said that because the baby can't avoid breathing in the powder that all studies show that parents shouldn't be using Baby Powder.
I haven't heard this one. I'm not using it right now... he also got circumcised so I don't think I would use it until we was healed... but has anyone else heard this?
Are you still using the powder - or opting out?!
Re: Not supposed to use Powder?!
No powder for us.
It can also unnecessarily dry out baby's skin, and feed yeast if there's ever a yeast rash. (Or so I've read/heard)

I've also heard this. So no powder for us either...as I think it makes sense.
We might keep some around incase of bad rashes and such. Then I'll be careful to dump it in my hand first so it doesn't get a chance to be so airborne.
When our pedi told us this I was shocked. I mean I know I'm a FTM, but I had never heard of not using it. We don't use it on a regular basis or anything, but when we do, we put it on our hand first. The reason our pedi gave us was because babies can inhale it. So if we put it on our hand first, then that eliminates the problem
We don't use it. Although I have seen a cream to powder version that would not get in LOs lungs.
We just use vaseline after he poops. We have Butt Paste but will only use it if his butt looks red and irritated.

and after 82 days in the NICU, our little girl is home!
This is what we Learned in our baby safe class
We did use powder when Wyatts rash was out of control and nothing else was working. We put it on the diaper away from him and then put the diaper on him. It did help but I ended up getting some other stuff that worked wonders for his diaper rash.
But you are correct, you are not to use it because a baby can inhale it.
