AngelCare Monitor

As if I wasn't already stressed about LO's heart murmer, last night the AngelCare Monitor alarm went off. The beep woke him up and he started crying. A couple more times after that the warning buzzer went off but not the full alarm. Do you think it had something to do w/ the sensitivity setting or should I be taking him back to the pedi to check out sleep apnea?

Re: AngelCare Monitor

  • How old is your little guy?  Is it possible that he's moving and getting away from the sensor?

Also, how much does he weigh?  The sensor pad didn't pick up one of my guys when he was still pretty small.

I'd check the placement of the sensor pad and check the sensitivity.

  • that's scary! :-(  I'm not that familiar with the AngelCare monitor (I had a different brand), but if DD rolled off the sensor pad, the alarm would go off. Ours came with two pads so eventually (after a couple of false alarms and finding her in a different area of the crib), we installed both pads so the entire crib would be covered.

Based on your siggy, your LO is only a couple of months old though so I'm not sure how much they are moving around. I'd talk to the pedi about it just in case, but I'm paranoid like that.

    good luck!!!

  • I have had this happen before and usually if i scooted her more into the center it would stop happening. But i did wonder if it was doing its job by startling her back to breathing. I would ask the pedi about it just to be sure and for piece of mind.

He's 8 weeks and weighs 9 lb 14 oz. He definitely didn't move away from the sensor. I may have to check out the sensitivity setting.

  • Mine has gone off a few times....and I am not sure why. I think the sensitivity setting was messed up.?

Call their customer service. I heard they are helpful and nice. ?

  • That happened to us a few times - I upped the sensitivity setting.  Sometimes when mine were in a deep sleep and breathing very lightly, it would go off.  I know this because they were in a co-sleeper right next to me, so I would put my hand on them and feel their breathing when the alarm was going off.

I would try upping the sensitivity, and see if it happens again.  Good luck!

  • I'm not sure what you mean by "warning buzzer"  If I remember right, for me it only periodically beeped (if that is what you mean) if the battery was low, or if the temperature in the room went above or below what I had set if for.

It would alarmed for real only a few times when 1) he moved to the far corner of the bed, 2) when we changed the sheets a few times and the sensor pad was moved and we didn't realize it or 3) I forgot to turn it off when I took him out.

  • I checked the sensitivity setting and it was only on 2.  We also have a thin mattress the mini crib came with underneath the mattress that should probably be removed.  The warning buzzer (which goes off after 15 seconds I believe) went off just now when I was watching him on the monitor and he wasn't quite asleep even...just dozing/eyes fluttering.
