VBAC

That's comforting...NOT!

I just called L&D to start asking questions about the hospital policies for VBAC i.e. monitoring, I.V., etc. And all of the nurses are busy, which I understand, but those that are not caring for patients in their rooms are in a c-section! I know it doesn't mean anything, it is just ironic that I'm calling to get info about VBACs and anyone who might be able to answer my questions is in the exact surgery I'd like to avoid. Le sigh.

  • Why not schedule a maternity tour? This way you can have questions answered by someone who is scheduled to answer them?

  • I am a registered nurse and unfortunately I've never heard of someone calling the labor and delivery floor to get info from the nurses. Those nurses are there for inpatient issues at the time. Your best solution would be to call your OB's office and speak to the nurses there. Your OB should be familiar with your hospital's policies regarding monitoring, etc if they have privileges there. If your OB doesn't have the answers you want, there are plenty of other physicans and midwives out there willing to help with VBACs.

I never even thought about calling until I read about it on (I believe ICAN's website). Which said that to be sure of certain hospital's policies, you'd have to call yourself. I didn't talk to them, so no harm done. Just thought it was ironic they were in a c/s.
