Would you call dr?

Early this morning I woke up and had kind of period-like cramps - not even real cramps, but achy pains in my very low abdomen, off and on, but not really regular - not unbearable but uncomfortable. I've continued to have them all morning, ranging from 5 minutes apart to 10 minutes or even more, only lasting a few seconds or so - maybe 15 seconds.  Being the holidays, I've eaten a TON of junk the last 2 days, so part of me thinks this is just my body telling me to stop eating cookies for breakfast, but I'm also wondering if these are contractions? Doesn't feel like the BH I've had before.  I would say it's pretty mild and not painful but definitely noticeable.  WWYD?

Re: Would you call dr?

  • That's exactly how I felt when I first started going into labor with DS.  It progressively got stronger. How many weeks are you?  If you are not full term then i would put in a call to the OB and see what they say.  Better safe than sorry IMO.

  • I've been having those, too and I'd say those are definitely contractions, but doesn't sound like the "real deal" BUT, I still think a quick call to let them know wouldn't be a bad idea.

  • Are you feeling it in your back as well?  Any change in the (sorry!) discharge?  Is your stomach getting REALLY hard at the same time?

I would probably call my doctor if you answered yes to at least 2 of those questions.  It never hurts to check.

  • Thanks ladies! Of course I posted that and haven't had one since - I will keep watching a little longer and if it starts up again will call my Dr. just to see what they say. Oh, and I am 36 1/2 weeks.

  • I've been having ALL kinds of cramps and contractions, on and off...

I've had the once you're describing, for about a day, 5-10 minutes apart.I took it easy that day, and tried not to freak out, lol.I only called my doctor the next day who told me to come in.She did a pelvic exam and I found out that I had dilated...It was a progress, because a week earlier at my routine check up I was closed.

     Maybe you're also dilating (wohoo).

  • First of all, I would always say call if you're thinking of it.  Better to have peace of mind than to be worried.  That being said, I had similar cramps last week.  I called the doctor and they told me it was normal but to call back if the pain became severe, if I had any bleeding or if my water broke/I thought I was in labor.  I felt better the next day so I didn't call back but a couple days later at my 37 week appointment they told me I was 2cm dialated (I was 0 at 36 weeks).  I hope you feel better soon!
