Pain in lower pelvic region

I've been having increased (moderate, not severe) pain for the last several days.  I went to urgent care on sunday because it feels just like a UTI.  I feel like I constantly have to urinate, even if nothing is in there.  Not just have to go, NEED to go, like my bladder will burst if I can't go.  They said that there was some bacteria, and prescribed antibiotics, but it's not getting better.  I wake up and can't go back to sleep because of the discomfort/pain/anxiety.  Has anyone had experience with this?  When you have a UTI while pregnant, does it take longer for the pain to go away than if you aren't pregnant? (I only wonder if the baby is squishing the tender bladder making it hurt longer)

  • What antibiotic did they give you? It's possible it isn't strong enough so nothing is resolving.

  • I have a UTI, I am on Macrobid for 7 days. I had such severe back pain I cried, I couldn't do anything. Even after I started the medicine it took me 3 full days to feel the slightest bit better, I even called the office to ask if it was normal to still feel so bad and they said yes, give it time. I'm not sure if it's the same in your case but it did take me a few more days to bounce back I feel, give your OB a call if you're nervous, I felt better calling and just being told to stick it out by them. Hope you feel better soon!

  • Thanks!  That makes me feel much better.  Usually with a UTI, I feel better after a day, but I think this one needs more time.  I called my OB, but I think they're closed.  The urgent care said that I should wait one more day until the culture comes back before they'll make a decision :(

  • I have a pregnant friend that has a horrible UTI. Her OB gave her Macrobid b/c the culture came back sensitive to that. Since it takes some time for the antibiotic to kick in and relieve symptoms, her OB also told her to get some Pyridium (OTC). It's a category B, but I would also check with your dr before you take it. It relieves symptoms VERY quick, but beware b/c it turns your pee the color of orange koolaid.
