Ezcema on face

What do you use for ezcema on your child's face?  My lo has it mainly on the corner of her mouth and a little on the cheeks.  I was thinking aquaphor or a hydrocortisone cream (just not sure about that so close to her mouth?).

Re: Ezcema on face

  • I use aveeno lotion and vaseline and it seems to work very well. My pedi told me to never use hydrocortisone on the face because in thins the skin, and facial skin is already thinner than the rest of the body.

  • Aveeno lotion for eczema is the only thing that has worked for us.  Aquaphor did nothing and our allergist actually doesn't recommend it.  I wouldn't use the hydrocortisone on the face.

Also once we cut out the triggers it helped immensely as well.

  • Thanks for the info!  We're meeting with an allergist Monday but I wanted to put something on it before then!

  • CEravae is the only thing that has worked for DD. she's got severe eczema. It's done wonders for her.

  • VaniCream is amazing...I tried every other cream before I found some relief dor DS.  There are times that some of his skin is actally soft.  It is made by dermatologists (my allergist recommended it.)

  • We also use CeraVe products for DD, she had terrible eczema as an infant. Now when she has mild flare ups, we have an rx cream called triamcinolone. It helps kick the flare up and then we can go back to maintaining with otc creams.
  • Organic olive oil butter. I was not comfortable putting non-edible cream on her face in case she ingested it. It helped her eczema a lot!

  • Interesting...I think I'll try this right by her mouth and her thumb.  Thanks!

  • This. My 4 month old has had ezcema since he was about 6 weeks. We have an rx for Desonide and use it to kick the flare ups and then I use CeraVe on him. I have severe ezcema as well. My dermatologist explained it's a lot about HOW you apply it. As soon as I get out of the shower, I apply my medicine (Fluticasone or Protopic depending on where - both are way too strong for LOs)...that is to be done within 2 minutes of getting out of the shower. Then I put CeraVe cream all over within 2 minutes from that. It worked like magic within 2 days the first time I did it. Now I just do it as needed.
