Success after IF

When do you introduce a sippy cup?

I feel so clueless when it comes to introducing solids and stuff like this.

And when you do give a sippy, do you just put water in it?  formula?  watered down juice?

Re: When do you introduce a sippy cup?

  • I felt completely clueless too!  We started with a straw sippy at around 7 months I think.  I think it was a playtex cup that you squeeze to get the water up the straw to encourage them to suck on it.  It probably took a month before she really had the hang of it.  Once she figured out the straw cup, regular sippy cups were easy.  We only gave water, but that's because DD is pretty big and doesn't need the extra calories from juice.

  • At 6 months we put water in the sippy. Gave it to him at meal him and he took about a month to figure it all out.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • At 6 months. We introduced it with water and didn't put anything else in it until he was one year old and we switched to milk.
  • Thanks!  I'll be asking the pedi at his 6 month appointment to see what she thinks but I was curious!

  • I introduced the sippy cup around 6 months when we started solids.  I just put water in it and let her play with it.  She does put it in her mouth and tips it back, but I'm still not sure if she's actually getting anything.

  • We gave it to him starting around 6 months with water in it.  We used the Nuby Soft Spout cups that he basically just had to chew on (which he was happy to do) and water would come out.  It was a great first sippy cup!

  • We loved the nuby sippy too.  We started at 6 months with only water.  It took about 2 weeks of offering it at every meal to finally get it, but she did.  No juice most pedi's do not recommend it all since it has so much sugar and no real nutritional value and cause cavities.
