Food Allergy

if you slip up during the holidays...

I'm pretty much convinced that I am going to eat SOMETHING that contains dairy or soy on Christmas. We're going to be out of town at the in-laws in WIsconsin.  I'm for sure going to try to avoid it, but it's Wisconsin...I think you ingest dairy through your pores as soon as you cross the state line.  I have been dairy/soy free for about a week now, so by the time Christmas comes I will have worked most of it out of my system.  My question is-- if you slip up and eat a bit of dairy or soy how long do you wait before you start to feed LO? 24 hours?

  • If I slip up and get traces of dairy it takes at least a week before we stop seeing symptoms in DS again.  Its better than the three weeks it took the first time, but long enough to make me REALLY watch what I eat.

  • It really depends on how much you have and how sensitive you little one is.  I'd bring/pack some safe back up food so that you know you have safe options (like cereal bars, bread, safe cookies/deserts etc. since those seem to be the hardest 2 to avoid at holiday gatherings for us).
