Food Allergy

Bird Feed

My DD has a peanut allergy, and bird food has been making me really nervous lately.  I have a huge stash in the garage (for feeding wild birds), and there are some peanuts in there too.  Even if there weren't peanuts, I'd be worried about contamination.  The birdseed is dusty and I would doubt there are any kind of 'standards' about mixing them or cross contamination.

It just makes me nervous - like its on my hands, or what if I brush up on the bag and get powder on me from the seed mix, or what if a peanut falls out of the birdfeeder and DD picks it up?  (Not that she would eat it, but that's enough for me)

Have any of you just gotten rid of all birdseed?  Thoughts?

Re: Bird Feed

  • I stopped feeding the wild birds (I miss this though and have started looking for a safe outdoor seed).  And found a safe birdfood for my indoor birds.
