A few weeks ago, DS was messing around and turned the volume all the way up on the CD player on his dresser. Scared himself half to death. He's not afraid to turn it on by himself (kind of wish he was, he climbs to get to it), but is now very careful not to touch the volume buttons. I've noticed ever since then, lots of things are suddenly "too loud". The volume I've always had his music set to and his Fridge Phonics are the two that receive the most complaints.
I can't decide if this is psychological or if it really does bother his ears. He has no real history of ear infections, one at 6mos and one sometime within the year after that and that's it, so I don't really have any ear discomfort to compare this with.
Would you take him in to get his ears checked?
Re: Everything is "too loud"
DD gets like this sometimes - its like a new trick or something.
I wouldn't worry about it unless she's acting like things are too loud, like she's scared, etc.
DS1 has been like this for as long as I can remember. He's always been our "old man" telling us everything is too loud. In soccer over the summer all the kids would put their hands in and yell "i love soccer!" at the end. DS1 ran away crying every time. I tried to explain that no one was yelling at him or anything like that, but I think it was really just the volume.
I think it could just be his personality. DH and I are general quiet low key kind of people too. Our school district offers free development screenings though and I am getting him scheduled for one of those.
Thanks, ladies.
I'm going to go ahead and chalk it up to a phase. My family is big, so it tends to get pretty loud. From birth he would sleep through all sorts of commotion. It's funny that now all of a sudden it bothers him. Maybe he's just had enough.
