Baby Shoes...

For the first 3 months are you supposed to really buy any for newborn to 3 months? I bought my LO cute outfits from the Gap (I went crazy with that 35% off sale, but I saved $200!) and I know that little shoes would just make everything come together...

Sadly, I haven't been around too many tiny babies in my lifetime (I'm the youngest in my entire family and only one or two of my close friends have kids), so I'm just curious - did you ladies buy alot of shoes for your LOs? How many pairs? And if you don't plan on buying alot of shoes, if any, what do they wear? Just little socks?

For DD we had a couple pairs of the soft sole shoes in different colors to wear. They helped keep her socks on. I recieved 4 pair for the shower for LO, in 4 different sizes actually. All soft soles, horay! Or they would have been returned.

I have heard the soft soles are better for babies, especially when they are ready to try standing or walking. Allows more room for the feet to "learn" to balance.

IMO, as cute as teeny-tiny baby shoes are, they are developmentally inappropriate so I would skip them or do soft booties (like soft leather bottom) if you really want something.

So, is everyone getting the soft baby booties-type shoes? Or will she be fine with just wearing socks?

I probably won't get any (unless there's some cute soft pair that come with an outfit or something) and will just stick to socks, sleepers and footed pants. They tend to just fall of and be annoying anyway!

We received baby Uggs and baby converse as gifts. They are more for show though and will probably just go on shelves in the nursery.

We'll use BabyLegs with no socks, socks if extra cold. We were also gifted some Trumpette socks. I won't be using shoes until perhaps it's necessary when they start scooting on their tummy (so they don't get rug burn on their toes/feet).

Yeah, I was looking at the baby Uggs and wanted them, but read the reviews and they seem a little large. By the time she fits those, I'm sure it will no longer be cold here.

I have a couple pairs of cute little soft shoes that LO will wear for church or other outings but not for around home. I also have a couple of pairs of Robeez soft leather shoes for her to wear at home. I know my toes are cold all the time so I want to make sure hers stay warm.

Most babies are just fine in socks, however, if you live in a colder climate or if LO won't keep socks on then Robeez type shoes might help keep his/her feet warm.

I only have one pair of hard soled shoes for LO--a pair of metalic purple Converse All Stars that Hubby bought for her. I love All Stars and have 8+ pairs so naturally LO needed some too.

I forgot to mention, the Robeez style shoes are often referred to "crib shoes".

No shoes... I won't be doing them until they're needed either. They can be too confining to their little feet. After he/she is crawling and much older maybe some soft ones, but not likely any earlier on than that.

We have inherited a few soft sole shoes, but we will not be buying any until LO starts walking. They are impossible to keep on (I've seen it in action!) and socks work better.

Not having a girl...but my niece just had a baby and her daughter has the cutest tights that have "shoes" stitched right into the stockings. They are sooo cute. It totally looks like she is wearing shoes but they are just the tights.

Just a thought.

I never bought shoes for my boys until they were getting ready to walk. And soft soles are a must so they learn balance and how it feels on their feet to walk.

If I would have a girl...that might be different because I think I would be tempted just to "complete" the outfit. But never found it necessary with my boys.

I'm a sucker. I bought baby Uggs when I was in Australia a few months ago. I don't think I would have bought them if they hadn't been a souvenir though. My H think's I'm a crazy for a) buying baby shoes at all and b) spending that much on them. I do not plan to get any other baby shoes until/unless it becomes obvious that I need them for some reason.

I think I have a shoe problem. This post is making me question whether I should return some of the shoes I bought.

I got her a pair of Gap Mary Janes with a kitty toe, 3 pairs of Converse, and we were gifted a pair of sandals, mocassins, and an adorable pair of My First Weitzman's (baby Stuart Weitzman's!!) And these are just all size 2.

I think I went overboard.

I agree that it's not developmentally appropriate. Actually barefoot is best when first learning to walk/ stand (of course that only works in the house). I plan to just do socks with LO. I might do soft booties/ shoes closer to 6-8 months but only when going out.

DS never wore shoes until he was about 6-8 months - I just never found it necesary (I might be more tempted for a girl, though). At that point I got him a pair of StrideRite sneakers. He was standing at 6 months and walking at 9 months.

I bought some cute baby shoes (little flats with bows, cute mini converse-type sneakers) but none of them are intended for actual walking! I just bought them because they're cute and never intend to let her use any of them as walking shoes. I'm sure she'll mostly be in socks or onesies anyway, but I couldn't resist. I mean, come on!

I just got alot of socks that look like shoes (trumpette), and two pairs of crib shoes. It's not necessary, but I wanted them. Most of the outfits I have up until 3-6 mos size have feet or are sleep and plays.

Thank you, ladies for all your help. I guess I wont be purchasing any shoes any time soon...but darn, do those custom made shoes on Etsy look so tempting!
