XP from nest: How much is Life Time Fitness- or other family gym rec?

DH and I belonged to Life Time for several years before DS was born. We paid $100 per month for a dual membership at the lower-end clubs. After DS was born we joined LA Fitness, which we liked better- it was $60 per month for a dual membership plus $10 a month for daycare services. The daycare services were fine when he was young and didn't know any better- now he's 3.5 and has autism and wicked seperation anxiety. I don't think I'd feel comfortable leaving him in that daycare unless they happened to have hired some new and improved babysitters.

We want to try the gym again as something to do as a family. We're looking at the YMCA in Edina which apparently has undergone a renovation. The last time I toured them I was really unimpressed- while the equipment was new and nice, it was all underground and very hot and stagnant. They cost $101 for a dual including daycare. I'm thinking their daycare would be better for DS though, plus it gives us a family outlet to get involved with.

I want to call Life Time to see what their rates are (they don't list them on their website) but I don't want to be hounded by constant sales calls like we were last time. Can you give me an idea of their prices? We'd be willing to drive to their flagship clubs to use their family pools, so I'm curious what the range of memberships cost. Any ideas or other recs from people using the gym as a family? Thanks!

  • I'm also curious about this.  I hate it that gyms don't list their prices online.

If anyone has any prices for individuals, that would be nice too.  While I would love to join the gym as a family, I can't see my H coming with to work out.

  • I'm not sure if you're anywhere near this, but we really like Williston Fitness Center in Minnetonka.  It's a community-run facility that recently underwent a big remodeling project which made it a ton nicer.  We really like the daytime child care person.  They have a splash pad for kids, as well as the treehouse area (climbing area).  For residents, it's $58 per month for a family membership, which includes 1 hour of free child care for any child on the membership.  I think the rates are a bit more for non-residents, but you can find them on the website.

  • We're Lifetime members, and we pay $99 for the two of us for the Bronze level membership. When we found out we were expecting, we went to ask how much it would cost to add the baby... apparently it's $5 extra per month.

  • Thanks for the recs, ladies! I am going to check out the place in Minnetonka because we're not too far from there- but we're also touring Southdale YMCA today. I'm hoping the renovations have improved the place!

  • I go to the YMCA its 64 dollars a month I get 20 credited from Health Insurance so 44 dollars a month That gives me access to all YMCAs in the twin cities AND child care. My husband doesn't work out just I do but if he wants to go swimming with us I use a guest pass or he pays 5 dollars no biggie
