Itchy Breast

Hi Ladies,

I hope you can tell me this is normal. For the past couple weeks I have noticed my breast have been extremely itchy before, during, and after breast feeding. Pretty much all the time. Now I have dry patches of skin and it's turning red. I googled it and I read this is caused from low estrogen and will only go away once the baby is weaned. It isn't thrush so I'm not worried about that. I'm wondering if anyone has heard of this or experienced it and know of anything that can help. Sometimes I can't control how much I'm itching bc it itches soooooo bad.

Why do you think it isn't thrush? This is exactly how my thrush started out and ds never showed any signs at all. If your nips are red Or you start to feel burning, call your LC.

I second pp. I had a bad breast yeast infection and that is exactly how it started. THEN my nipples felt like they were on fire and turned bright red. Couldn't stand clothing touching them. THEN my breasts started to feel like there were red hot pokers going through them. ---treated for yeast and its all gone. I would double check with your OB or LC before it gets worse. It was terribly painful. And its quite a bit of work to get rid of especially if LO gets thrush or yeast diaper rash.

Can it be thrush when my nipples aren't showing any signs?

I was itching my breast last night and my husband honestly said, "It's back!". I couldn't figure out what he was talking about, then he refreshed my memory that I'm always itchy before I get full-blown Thrush. The only symptom of Thrush I had the first time was itching. I know you think it's not Thrush, but I would see if a simple Rx would work before living with it! It might not be Thrush, but I would rather know for sure
