South Jersey Babies

Hospital question

I live in Camden County.  My options for hospitals to deliver at are Our Lady of Lourdes, Cooper, or Virtua Voorhees.   I'm not sure which one I should choose.  If I wanted to, could I go to UPenn hospital or do I have to deliver at an NJ hospital?   I asked my insurance company but they haven't responded yet.   Just wondering your thoughts....

Re: Hospital question

  • I would think as long as the hospital is "in network" and your doctor had privileges at the particular hospital you could deliver there.

The different hospitals have been talked about at length on here, look at the posts below.  In my opinion the doctor I'm going to be seen by for 9 months is more important than the hospital I'm going to stay at for 2-4 days.  The one exception to this would be if I knew in advance baby was going to have issues that only a high level NICU could handle.

Ditto. And I wouldn't go into Philly just to deliver a baby. It would put a financial burden on my family (all from NJ) and my H. I can't count how many times I sent him home to get stuff. I can't imagine having to pay $5 every time he wanted to leave and come back. Plus, you have to pay to park at UPenn.

  • Virtua or Cooper (though Virtua is brand new, has a NICU etc... this is my first choice), Lourdes would not even be an option for me.

  • Virtua would be my first choice.  I delivered there almost a year ago and had an excellent experience.  My SIL and a family friend both delivered at Cooper about 6mos ago and both had some serious issues with the nursing staff.

  • I delivered at the new Virtua Voorhees on the day it opened and that will always be my first choice should we have any more children in the future....I absolutely LOVED it.  The facility and staff are amazing!!  Plus there are pull out couch beds for your DH/SO to sleep on so he can stay with you, meals are provided whenever you want them and you get to choose from an entire menu and the place is just downright beautiful :)
