DD shunning left breat

The minute I put DD in position to nurse on the left (cradle hold) she turns her head away from the nipple and refuses to eat. Lots of screaming ensues. I usually end up feeding her on the right and pumping the left after she eats so I don't get engorged. Today I pumped to let down in the hopes she'd latch. She didn't so I put her on the right and switched her to the left after a few minutes, where she is finally nursing.

Anyone else deal with this? This started randomly last week. i always prepare for a struggle when it's time to start on the left and sometime she surprises me by latching w/ no problem. Most days, though, she could be havin' a great time and the minute I put her in position, she refuses to latch and instead becomes enraged.

Re: DD shunning left breat

  • DD refused to latch on to the left side from around 4 days old until around 1 1/2 months so I would feed her on the right side while pumping the left and giving the rest to her in a bottle.  I periodically started her on the left and occasionally she would accept it.  Now she has no problems and I cannot explain why she came out of it.  So I would say, just keep trying and hopefully she will come out of her left side strike.  If not, call a lactation consultant or her pediatrician to get their advice (although I'm guilty of not doing that myself).
