January 2012 Moms

Anyone else hoping for a NYE baby?

I'll be 37w on Dec. 31. I know they come when they're ready, I'm not going to do anything to encourage labor before 37w, but I am READY to have this baby. I guess because it's my 3rd and my ute is all stretched out, movement hurts now. I can't imagine going 5 more weeks...or more. Eeeek!

Plus, you know, the tax break would be nice. ;)

Re: Anyone else hoping for a NYE baby?

  • I'm not hoping for a NYE baby, but I am secretly hoping for a NYD baby.  I'll be almost 39 weeks at that point so I see no problem in her coming early if she decides to!  Right now I can't imagine going 5 more weeks, but realistically speaking, I might have to so I am also preparing for a LONG few weeks after Christmas/New Years.

  • I will be 37 weeks the day before new year's eve, and I think that having a baby on the 31st would be the most amazing way to celebrate.  The tax break wouldn't be bad either.  However, I just have this feeling that since I want a holiday baby so bad, that I will wind up going past my due date and have a February baby instead.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he's earlier than later.

  • I'd actually be pretty close to 39 weeks on NYE so I wouldn't mind it :)

  • Definitely.  My EDD is NYE and if I don't go into labor before then, I'm going to be induced due to GD.  So yeah, I'd love it if my body was ready to do this thing on or before NYE.

However, for baby's sake, I really wish that he was going to be allowed to gestate longer.  I feel so bad for him that he is going to have a birthday overshaddowed by the holidays for the rest of his life.

LibraryChica - I was also charting (and using OPKs) and also know Jan 3rd is the more accurate date based on when conception occurred.  But getting anyone to use that date has been impossible.  I should have just lied about the start date of my LMP from the get go.  It is one of my few regrets about this pregnancy, made more painful now that we are on the clock to deliver due to GD.

  • I'm due the 7th and hoping he comes BY the 31st. I wouldn't mind if he came around Christmas either though.

That must be very frustrating. I've been lucky and my "off" EDD hasn't really affected my pregnancy, except for a few weeks of nervousness when the OB kept saying she was small. Then she "caught up" and it ceased to become an issue. I think the few days difference may have had something to do with that. I don't know why doctors are so reluctant to accept a charting date. My OB even knows that I have slightly longer cycles. And are the chances of it being off really that much higher than with the LMP? I know that before I was TTC I almost always guestimated my LMP at my annual.

I wouldn't worry about the holidays. As I keep telling Dh -- if this is the biggest problem our kid has then we and she are pretty lucky. Wink

That is an awesome attitude to have.  Now, if only I had some of your almond bark too :)

  • I was actually crossing my fingers to NOT have a NY baby. But after your point regarding the tax break Im kinda changing my mind. LOL. Due jan 6th, so 1 week early with a december 31 baby wouldnt be horrible.

    Whats decembers birth stone?

  • Oh yes!  Then or sooner.  I'll take now.  I only have 14 days to go.

  • I have my c-section scheduled for New Years Eve so unless he comes early on his own, I will be having a NYE baby!

MH and I are both excited that he will be a holiday baby.  Our DD was also a holiday baby as she was born on the 4th of July.  I think it is pretty cool that both of our children will get fireworks on their birthday.  Smile

  • My EDD is Jan 4th so I'd be totally fine if she decided to come this year!

  • yes and no.

Financially it would help us a ton! Insurance and tax reasons... but LO would be 2 weeks early and I just feel like that's too soon!  Lungs are still being developed and I'd rather go to my 1/10 EDD or a little later if it's necessary to have a healthy baby at birth!

  • Nope.  I'm hoping LO comes January 1 or after.  We'd rather hit the max OOP for our insurance in January than get the tax break in December.

  • Oh heck yes! I think that would be rad. Im due on Jan 09 so that wouldn't be too early and hellooo... TAX RETURN!!! LOL
  • I am due Jan 5, so it is entirely possible, but unlikely.  Besides I want a 2012 baby.  The only way I would want a NYE baby would be if he was born a minute after midnight on Jan 1 and it was a huge deal and we got lots of free stuff :)

Definitely not.  DH only had one request when we started trying, and that was to avoid a NYE baby.  He was a NYE baby and he hates it.  Luckily I'm due January 31st.  Whew!

We were the same way. We "took off" the month before we conceived so we wouldn't have a Christmas or NYE baby. Fingers crossed our plan works :)
