Need advice for moms that ran entire pregnancy

Hi! I'm 27 weeks and still running ore- prego about 7 min miles up to 5 a day. Still holding strong but up to 830 min miles sometimes less depending how long I go. Did you guys wear maternity belt to be able to run all the way through? Or what did u do to keep going? It's mentally hard to feel so weak for someone that is so into working out, Tia!

  • I never had to wear a maternity belt or any kind of support.  I was lucky the way I carried DS, it just didn't really bother me to run.  I started running outside - not timing or measuring my distance - in the later part of my pregnancy.  That way I didn't really know my pace, although I knew it was slower.  But at least I didn't have numbers going through my head making me feel bad!  I am not sure where you live, and obviously it's winter, so maybe you can't run outside, but even if you are on a treadmill, just don't worry about the numbers!

Same, but I was never as fast as you.   And I decreased my mileage so I could keep it up on a daily basis.

  • i'll be 39w tomorrow and i have been running 4x/week (ran this morning). i have been lucky in that i've never had to wear a support belt... i think a lot of this has to do with the fact that i gained 2" in my hips by about 16 weeks, so i don't have any balance or body support issues. today's run was slow due to the fact that he's recently dropped.

my one piece of advice is this... some days are better than others. it's totally fine to just chalk something up to a bad run; but at the same time, accept the fact that things are just different now. there are some days that i struggle with 1.5 miles, some days i can run 3+ without issues. today i struggled with 2, but thursday's run was a fantastic 3 miles-i was faster than i have been in weeks and felt strong.

the one thing that keeps me motivated is telling people i'm still running; people are always so impressed. i was a runner pre-PG, so they ask me a good bit if i still am running. i was never nearly as fast as you, but i'm still pretty freaking proud of myself that i'm still running at 39 weeks pregnant. i may be slow, but damn it, i'm doing it. i'm doing more than a lot of PG women are at this point.

  • I need this belt since she dropped just to relieve some pressure from my bladder so I don't have to stop to pee!   But therea re good days and bad days and sometimes I have to settle for the bike or walking.
  • I ran throughout my pregnancy including the night that my water broke. As a PP mentioned you will have great running days and some not so great running days. Some days I changed my pace while other days I adjusted my distance...listen to your body. I never wore a maternity belt when I exercised but did wear one at night as I had a tendency to wake up with nasty back pain.

I had several things that kept me going. First and foremost running has always been a part of my life and when I don't run my mood suffers. My DS is used to going to the gym with me so I had a LO dragging me to the gym. Experience was my other motivation. I went 41 weeks and 6 days with my first and was in active labor for 46 hours. My doctor commented that without my working out he doubts I would have tolerated labor like I did.Exercise payed off in the end because with DD I was back walking at the gym three days after giving birth, back in my pre-pregnancy clothes within a week, and running three weeks later.

Best of luck to you. When in doubt listen to your body and talk to your doc.
