I am officially not doing Christmas cookies next year. It has gotten totally out of hand doing them for friends, neighbors and DH's coworkers. Considering I will have a 3 1/2 year old and a 10 month old next Christmas I am assuming people will understand if I slack off on the cookie deliveries. Why did I start doing this in the first place? Anyone else feel like their cards (we sent 80 this year) or cookie making has gotten out of hand?

Re: Never again!
I think that they can understand why you wouldn't do it... and if not oh well.
I do feel like my Christmas Card count doubled from last year to this year... I have no idea how.
I'm impressed that you did them in the first place! I have not done christmas cards in the two+ years since DH and I have been married. I also used to make this white chocolate peppermint bark to give as christmas presents...didn't even cross my mind to make it this year!
I did make 8 dozen coookies this weekend, but am I using them for gifts??? Nope! Two dozen are for work, two dozen are for christmas eve, and the remaining 4 dozen are for DH for painting the nursery and generally putting up with my pregnancy insanity. And I don't feel too bad about it either!
We don't do Christmas cards; we consider them a gimmick and an excuse to spend money (not judging--I know a lot of people, like the ILs, love this part of Xmas--it's just not for us).
I love baking around Christmas time, though for the past two years I've also been making lots of truffles (this year, I made almost 400 truffles by the time I was done). In the past year or so, we've turned the baking and chocolates into gifts instead of doing them on top of gifts. They're "from the heart," don't cost a huge amount of money, and I don't have to worry about them going to waste if the person I give them to doesn't really want them because they'll just share them.
I'm actually excited about Christmas baking next year. My two will be the same ages as yours. I know the 10-month-old will be hard to manage, but I feel like my DD will actually be able to participate. I'm planning to make things she can definitely help with like sugar cookies or gingerbread men. Maybe some other stuff too--we'll see how into baking she is. It was always a wonderful tradition my mom and I shared and I really want to start it early.
I usually make Christmas cards (sometimes with painted flat wooden ornaments in them) but this year with baby stuff and closing on our house Dec 2nd, it wasn't happening.
I also usually make a ton of chocolate covered pretzels that I give to people, which required standing over the stove for hours hand dipping them all, BUT I discovered the Bakers brand chocolate that you melt in the microwave. This meant I could do all the hand-dipping in front of the TV on the couch
WOOHOO!
