I was hoping you ladies would be able to help me out.
My son is just over four months and I barely ever pump because I only work on a contract basis for a few hours here and there. Today I have to pump and it freaked me out because I only got 2 ounces.
He has been very fussy lately, not sleeping well at all, and I'm starting to think it's because he's not getting enough to eat.
Is my body just not used to the pump or do you think my supply is drying up?
Re: Worried about supply
How are his diapers?
Did you pump to replace a feeding? Or was this pumping session in addition to feeding him all day?
How many times per day do you typically feed him?
Thanks for replying.
He has 2-3 poopy diapers most days, sometimes less. He seems to always have a wet diaper so 6-8 a day.
I feed him every two to three hours depending on his sleep schedule and what we are doing throughout the day.
I was pumping in between feedings, like an hour after the last feeding.
Sounds like he is getting quite enough.
First know that 2 oz is a very normal output for pumping moms, And it is a great amount for someone who pumps infrequently.

Little Rose is 2 1/2.
I have been worried about DS getting enough milk since day 1. When I pump (even in the morning after he slept 5 hours), I could barely get an ounce total. I talked to my LC and she suggested coming in to do a weighed feeding. Even though I can only pump an ounce (if that), he got almost 4 ounces from me in he middle of the afternoon! Your body is made to respond to your baby! If you don't pump often, your body won't recognize it as trying to get food for your baby.
To this day I freak out about him not getting enough to eat when he's fussing, so I bought a digital baby scale. I know it's unnecessary, but it makes me feel better knowing exactly how much he's getting to eat.
How on earth would this help her supply?
OP- sounds like LO is getting plenty! You're probably just not used to the pump. Were you able to let down while pumping? I know when I'm relaxed and well hydrated it makes a world of difference in my pumping output. Like PP said, what you pump is -not- indicative of your supply. Baby is much more efficient at getting milk
