no pumping? - SAHM

are there other SAHM out there that don't pump at all? I keep reading posts about pumping and building a stash. I feel like maybe I should be doing it too but then again not sure if I have a reason to. I guess it would be nice to have the option to leave the house for longer than 2 hours but really I am with DS all the time.

Re: no pumping? - SAHM

  • I am a SAHM and I built a stash. Just in case I go grocery shopping or some where and DH needs to feed her. Also I guess just in case your supply runs low or if I want to have some cocktails! I have back up.

  • I have 3 bags frozen, but that's it.  I build up if we know we have something to go to without the kids, but I rarely do that...  the bags we have in the freezer now are from when we went to a wedding!

  • I did a small stash (25 oz) and then ended up giving it away once LO hit about 6 months and decided he hates bottles. Honestly, it wasn't worth the effort for me. I still rarely leave LO for more than 3 hours, but I don't want to. I'm happy with going out to dinner with DH or out to yoga.
  • I'm a SAHM, right now anyway.  I have a tiny stash because I hate the tediousness of pumping - putting on the hands free bra, setting it all up, waiting for it to finish, cleaning everything, changing back into my nursing bra.  Not to mention inevitably DS starts wailing right after I'm hooked up!

Besides, I enjoy the closeness we share during nursing.  My stash is kind of emergency use only.  On our one and only date night since his arrival, he wouldn't take the bottle from the babysitter.  I didn't find out until we were on our way home and I almost broke down in tears!  He was going two hours past his normal feed time so in my mind I was starving my sweet boy!  I know he was ultimately fine, but it sure felt bad at the time.

  • I never had more than 20 ounces stashed and I only had a manual pump. It was nice to have the option to express a little, but DD rarely got a bottle. I think you will be fine without.

  • I SAH and the only time I pump is if I know we are going somewhere, i.e. out to lunch, a doctor's appointment, shopping. I only have 1 bag of milk in my freezer that I am using on Wednesday after his 2-month appointment. When I do pump, it takes me (literally) 2 days to get enough milk to freeze. If I don't have a reason, I don't do it! I am considering pumping so I have a bottle for Saturday mornings when DH is home so I can sleep in, but to be honest, I'm a little too lazy these days to put that much effort into pumping when it takes longer to pump than to get up and feed him!
