gulping while nursing?

my LO tends to nurse very urgently at times, mostly at night. im concerned that he may be getting milk too fast and i dont want him to aspirate. he gets kind of chocked up at times too. he doesnt seem distressed though. he sometimes gets so urgent that heont latch. has anyone else experienced this?

    My little girl does this too. I try and hold her up when she does it. I nurse in the football hold and that seems to help. I was told by a lactation consultant that it is not an issue as long as you hold them up and let them swallow, then relatch.

    My DS does all of this and its particularly at night.  At 3 am in particular (his second night feeding) he wakes up as if he is STARVING.  Lots of crying and he eats frantically.  Really struggles to latch on.  Comes off and on and off and on and wiggles around a lot.  I still am not sure why he does this after 2 months.  When he does latch on it is for short spurts and he always gulps frantically.  Then after he gets a bit of milk he settles (usually). 

    I sit him up when he chokes, but he hates that because i took him away from the boob.  He usually works it out himself and then goes back to the frantic eatting.

    I discussed with my LC and her only guess was that my supply dips at night and he  seems to get frustrated very easily.  I tend to have a very fast letdown.  He generally gets squirted in the face on first letdown and you can see the milk streaming from my nipple.  My LC's guess is that my normal is so fast that when it slows down at all he gets aggravated.  I do have a fairly impatient little man (just like his mamma).

    Just a note--he also has refulx and is not a good sleeper.  I have no idea if the reflux has anything to do with it.  He does sometimes do similar behavior during the day, but its less frequent.

    My sister said she used to lean waaaaay back when she fed her LOs to let gravity help her.  So rather than her LOs sucking AND gravity causing the milk to come out, by leaning back, only the sucking made the milk come out.  Make sense?  She said it worked for her.

    I feel better too.  I'll feel great if I ever figure out why he is so frantic.   If you ladies get more insight please share

     

    Intersting that it's a night for all three of us. Maybe the LCs idea that it's night supply dip is it
