Breastfeeding

Refusing breast?

At least once a day for the last few days my little girl (8weeks today) cries when I try to put her to my breast to latch. She'll cry for a while (30-90 min) and eventually latch. She makes the hunger signs and it has usually been 1 1/2 to 2 hrs since the last feeding.

I started back to work on the 7th and she has three pumped bottles during the day (I"m able to give her her first feeding, lunch, and late afternoon at home because I live close to work). Could she have decided the bottle is better already?

I hope she's not refusing my breast because I already feel guilty for working, and I think breastfeeding is the best bonding time I have with her because she is usually sleeping or sleepy when I get to be with her.

Is there anything I can do?

Re: Refusing breast?

  • Sounds like my little one. I went back to work at 6 weeks. She waited until she was 13 weeks to decide that the bottle was easier. We have been trying to get her back to the breast but it has been a challenge. My lactation consultant recommended going skin to skin. We have tried that but she gets too mad and I give in because I feel guilty being away from her that I want our time together to be enjoyable.
