So my DH is having a bossy pants moment because we are supposed to get a blizzard in the TX panhandle on Monday that will bring up to 9 inches of snow. He has known of this weather prediction for days and tonight (SAT) he decides I need to call the doctor and see if I can get checked Monday. I feel slightly annoyed by this... I am also feeling nervous that things will progress during this storm and I will have to have LO in a small rural town that does not even have a regular OB.
So would you call monday to try and get checked? Would you discuss getting a hotel room by the hospital with DH just in case? Or would you just wait it out and see?

What she said
I do not really care about having my baby in a blizzard but road care during said blizzard in Texas is BAD. I am ready to have this baby!
You will probably have several hours of regular, painful contractions before delivering you baby, so you should have plenty of time to get to the hospital no matter how bad the roads are.
Unless you have a history or family history of really short labors, I think I'd just have a lower threshold to start driving in-- if they say it's not real labor when you get there, then it would be worth it to pay for the hotel room. I think any other option would just make me nervous!
This. And I don't mean to laugh, but I find it funny in the south when they say "blizzard" and "9 inches of snow". 9 inches of snow is normal for us in the winter on any given day.
But areas that are used to snow also can handle that better. Like we would be ok with that, but they would also be out salting and plowing the whole time. We have friends that live south and if it even calls for snow everything shuts down. It's all relative.
OP, I think you will be fine, but I agree to head in sooner than later if contractions were to start to give yourself extra time.
Very true. We had 6 inches of snow here in Vegas a couple years ago. First time I have seen snow stick here in 10 years. There is not a single snow plow in this entire city and I am sure we also do not have any salt either. So the roads can be dangerous. Especially when most people here have never driven in snow in their entire life.

Oh no I totally understand... I lived in FLA for a few years and would laugh when people wore scarves when it got down to 50 but I get it :-)
Word of advice to keep yourself safe... If you guys don't have salt because of where you are, keep some cat litter on hand. It will give you the traction you need on the driveway, front steps, etc. until it clears.
One of my first thoughts as well was "Wow! How different the perspective on 9 inches of snow is down there!" but it is SO true that because we have snow all year round and can get a foot or two in a night and then are expected to drive to work in it we are just used to/better prepared to deal with it. I truthfully would be a lot more nervous driving in a climate where snow isn't so common just based on the fact that the other people on the road aren't experienced in those conditions alone... nevermind being one of the people who are used to driving in it. I would NOT want to be in a car in labour in a snow storm, especially in an area where they aren't equipped to clear it efficiently and quickly.
So I called my doctor's office this morning when they opened and got my appointment moved to this afternoon at 2:30 which has DH PISSED off
It is still supposed to be mostly rainy at that point and he was actually yelling at me through the bathroom door about how I did not do the right thing. Then when he came out of the bathroom he yelled at me about how the doctor should just let us come now. I was not aware the OB was his slave...
I am so annoyed now. I hope I go into labor tonight just to spite him... but on the bright side SIL got off the phone with me to call him and explain the real world to him.
She just called back and said he was nice to her... I am so annoyed!
