ok so here we go.......
I have a 5 month old who at 3.5 months began having bloody/mucas in her stools. So I first ended up in the ER in a panic (1st time mom) they explained the milk allergy sinerio. so I have been COMPLETLY dairy free for almost 6 weeks. We have seen no improvment so we went to the pedi for recheck. I took 3 dirty diapers with me and they all had mucus and blood in them. the blood is not visiale it only showes up on the dip stick like test they did. So we went next to blood work and stool collection. The blood work indicated that her only true allergy is egg whites. The stool collection indicated that she is not digesting her food correctly and that she is unable to break down Sucrose and Lactose. So I have been exclusivly breast feeding her since birth and she gets BM bottles while I am at work 2 days per week. After the appointment with the pedi that showed she still has blood in her stool after the dairy elimination the pedi suggested I wean her to formula and really consider stoping BF. I am so torn as I DO NOT want to stop nursing her. I love our time and I am the only one who can do it for her. I did start to slowly wean her to the formula and she is now taking it strait after 4 days of decreasing the amount of BM in each bottle. I have been pumping during the day and then nursing when she wakes in the night ( normally 1-2 times) I have noticed an improvement in her poo and am very glad about it. I just dont know if I am ready to give up BF completly but I dont want my baby to not feel well and have a sore belly. Since the blood work came back I have been sugar/sucrose/dairy/egg free. I dont know how long it will take to completly remove the sugar from my system and I am running out of food options. I dont know what to do..... go to all formual or continue to eliminate foods. Please if anyone has any ideas or help for us I would be SO SO greatful!!!! Thank So Much!!!
Re: New and Need HELP!
I am a little confused, you are seeing slight improvement since adding more formula or going back to BM..
I am a big advocate for BFing. My pedi really encouraged my Bf as long as possible. Eliminate the top 8 from your diet and then slowly re introduce things you aren't sure if she's allergic to like wheat. It will take 2-4 weeks to remove everything from your system but you will see improvements. I would continue to BF as you are eliminating too. If you notice she's gassy in that time just give her extra cuddles and comfort her.
Keep a food diary of everything you eat & drink. Once everything is removed, you will easily notice if something set her off.
Also try to eat minimally processed foods and as organic as possible.
