As LO starts to get older, will she need to eat as often? And will her feeding sessions last longer? DD is 1 month now, she eats about every 3 hours during the day and nurses for about 20 minutes. I'm wondering how that will change as she gets bigger, if she'll nurse for longer or if she'll just be able to eat more in the same amount of time.
Re: changes as baby gets older
Breastfed babies increase their milk intake rapidly the first few weeks, but then they eat the same amount until they start solids and then it slowly decreases. Most babies become more efficient nursers and take only 5 minutes out get a few ounces from mom and be content. My daughter has always liked to nurse every 3 hours or more as she got older and more distractable she could go 4 hours but until she was about 15 months old she would be very fussy and ready to nurse at that point..
