Pregnant after a Loss

Ack! Need some advice!

So is there any other way to reduce massive foot and ankle swelling aside from putting my feet up and drinking a bunch of water?  After driving 3 hours yesterday and having Christmas with the inlaws (and some very rambunctious nieces) I am super duper swollen.  My skin is so tight and my compression socks (from years ago) are at home.  We have to make this drive back tomorrow and I am hoping I can get it down before we leave.

Thanks ladies!

  • I read once that massaging the area can reduce swelling but I'm not sure if it works. Is it possible to run out and get another pair of compression socks?  Sorry you're dealing with this.

  • Wrap them in a wet cool towel.. and keep it cool.  Cold reduces swelling.

  • When I worked retail at Christmas my feet would swell.  Don't know that they ever got as bad as a pregnant woman's swollen feet, but I used to soak them in water with some epsom salts.

This website confirms that it can help with swelling, so maybe give that a try.

  • Thanks ladies!  I think it is time for DH to give me a little foot massage.  I would run out and buy more but we are at IL's and they live about a half hour in the boonies.  No stores nearby that would be open right now.  I am pretty sure my MIL has epsom salt so I will try that after my (hopefully) massage!  I am just trying to down water as fast as possible without giving myself heartburn.

  • Ugh, I have been dealing with this on and off since my trip to L&D on Tuesday.  When I am too busy during the day I notice at the end of the evening my feet/ankles are huge...then as soon as I put them up on the couch for awhile the swelling goes down.

I haven't found a solution other than that, or just going to bed at night...I have my normal skinny ankles in the morning...it's so bizarre!  Today I slept in then DH and I stayed in bed watching tv until 2pm because I wanted to keep my skinny ankles!  lol  When I finally did get up I went and had a pedicure...I wish everyday could be like this!  Hahahaha.

Hope you find some relief soon!

  • Nothing I did, and I tried all the typical suggestions from my MW, worked to take down my swelling with DS.  Thank goodness it was summer and I could wear flip flops every day because not one pair of shoes or sock fit on my feet without cutting into the swelling.  I'd just say to remember that "feet up" means they have to be above heart level, so sitting on the couch with your feet across the cushions isn't technically feet up.  I have made that mistake before thinking I had my feet up when I didn't.
