1-2cm & 70% effaced--Will I last til Christmas? Thoughts?!

I'm up to my weekly appts-I'm 36wks-5days and she told me that i'm dilated 1 to 2cm and 70% effaced? Does this mean I'm close? I have contractions, but they are averaging about 20min apart. Any signs that my water might break??

How much you are diated and effaced doesn't necessarily determine when you will go into labor. You could be walking around for weeks a few centimeter dilated, or you could be closed up and then go into labor. Sorry if it bursts your bubble. It's good to be ready just in case because we are at the point when baby could be ready at any time because due dates are estimations, not guarantees.

I've been 2cm and 70% effaced for 2 weeks and I was 1cm 50% for 2 weeks before that. Doesn't really determine when you will go into labor however hopefully it means that once you do it'll be quicker!

I agree... you can't really tell anything. I was completely closed with DS and swore I'd go late and 3 days later with no signs of progress my water broke and I was 3 cm by the time I got to the hospital. (1 week early)

Like pp said, try to just enjoy that it's 1-2 cm you won't have to worry about in labor!

Either way you look at you are close, keep in mind you've been pregnant for 36 weeks! and you only have 4 left!! I have to keep telling myself the same thing because I'm so anxious. But I'm 1 1/2 cm dilated and 100% effaced and my doctor said I COULD go anyday but I could also make it to my due date. Some people can be dilated to 5 and not got into labor yet and I've had a friend who was dilated to 1 and had her daughter that night. It's just a guessing game. I kept searching for others opinions too when they told me I was 100% effaced but realisticly I know nobody knows when I'm going to go into labor. Hopefully both of us will go soon!

I had my appointment Thursday at 36w3d and I'm also 1-2 cm 70%. My doc said it doesn't determine when the baby will come, but since I'm already starting to get things going, labor should progress a bit faster.

I was 1cm at 34w and at my appointment last Monday I was almost 2cm. Not sure about effacement. But all that doesn't really predict when you'll go into labor. My doc said it could be anytime or I could go past my due date. I have a friend who was almost 4cm dilated for 3 weeks before she went into labor. I'd say just enjoy the fact that your body is starting to progress already and your LO will come when they're ready.

I am 1.5 and 50% effaced and so hoping that I will be having this kid soon! Good luck to you!
