doppler question

I know this has probably been posted a zillion times, but I didn't feel like going back through all the old posts- forgive me :) I just got my doppler in (YYAAYY) and think I found the heartbeat pretty quickly. it was the very clear fast beat, like a horse running, but the number never really stabilized, but it went between 130-145. I'm assuming that is too fast to be my heartbeat right? What is a human number supposed to be vs a baby?

Thanks for not bawking at me for not knowing this by now!

Re: doppler question

  • It usually won't stabilize. It helps to actually use a stop watch or watch a clock and count the heartbeat yourself. But yes, from what you've said that was baby that you heard!

  • Lol...no bawking. An adult heartrate is normally between 80-100.  When I had my doppler done it read at 164.  I would definately think that if you are getting a reading in the 130s-140s that it is the baby! Congrats!

  • That's way to fast to be your heartbeat, you found baby!

  • What doppler did you buy? I want one but I am unsure of what brand or type. Thanks!!

  •  Congrats - that's allllllll baby :)

bg1166 - most people get the Sonoline B. It's around 50 or 60$ which is pretty reasonable & is available on many websites.. like Ebay or Amazon. Hope this helps!

  • Yep, that's definitely your LO. I was in the hospital this weekend and got to listen to the baby as much as I wanted to and our LO's never stabilized either; it was always between 130-170. It would feel the doppler pressing down a little and just when we got close (the hb would be around 130), it would move really fast all the way across my tummy and then, it's hb would rocket up to around 170. The nurses told me that it was fine and normal.
