Two Under 2

monitors for two

okay so we are expecting #2 in may.  our first son will be 18 mos.  we are putting the boys in separate rooms (since our rooms are tiny and to avoid having them wake each other).  how have you veteran mommies handled the whole baby monitor thing?  does someone actually make a monitor for 2 separate rooms?  (i am yet to find one and no one seems to know if it exists)  or has anyone found two that are compatible?

thanks in advance!

Re: monitors for two

  • I'm sorry I don't have the answer, but I have been thinking about the same thing.  Our little ones will be about the same difference in age.  My husband thinks we can just stop monitoring big brother, but I'm not really ok with that.  I would love to know the answer, too, so I'll be lurking around!

  • We have a MobiCam video monitor. Both rooms have a camera and we have one receiver. You can set it to toggle between both rooms every few seconds OR you can set it to either individual room.  From what I have heard, you just have to buy an additional camera for the Summer ones.

  • i have a summer video monitor and you can just buy additional cameras for it, I think it supports up to 6 at a time? honestly, its pricey, but by far the BEST and most favorite baby item

  • We have a cheapo sound monitor in my DD's room and the Angelcare in my DS's room. When he's older and doesn't need the Angelcare I think we may look into a video one for both rooms. Having 2 monitors is no big deal now and they don't interfere with each other at all. There was no way we could afford a video one now and I also like having the Angelcare right now...
  • We have a Summer Infant Slim & Secure video monitor and an extra camera. The monitor will scan up to four cameras. The monitor and camera 1 were about $200. Camera 2 was about $90. Summer has a new one out called Baby Touch. Not cheap, but I hear it's awesome.

I found that I needed two monitors even if my kids shared a room. They are not always in the same room at the same time and even if they are I want a camera on each crib.
