? about sleepy/lazy nursers

DD is a really sleepy baby in general and I have to get her completely stripped down to her diaper to get her awake enough to eat and even then I have to do a LOT of stimulation to keep her awake and eating. If your baby was like this how long until they were able to nurse fully clothed? lol I feel like I cant nurse her anywhere but at home since its such a process to get her stripped down, hard to keep her awake at the breast (which makes covering up while nursing near impossible), etc. I am trying to get back into our normal routine for the sake of my toddler but being stuck at home is really tricky.

Any tips?

Re: ? about sleepy/lazy nursers

  •  My son was a preemie and would get sleepy. We were told to wake him, undress him, etc., but once his weight gain was good and consistent (and he was near term) I just stopped. I found that in the end we did better if he set the schedule and pace. It was hard trusting him at first, but it was nice not having to obsess about it. Sometimes letting him sleep a little more was a good thing. He also would do a couple of quick feeds then want to have a nice long session. If your DD's weight gain is good it might be worth a try!

  • Oh I dont wake her to eat-- I wait until she fusses and wakes up to eat but if I don't undress her as soon as she gets to the breast she falls right back asleep about 30 seconds in. It would be one thing if she even ate for 5 or 10 mins before falling back asleep but its literally less than a minute.
