Pumping past one year ?

My DS still nurses 6-10 times a day when I am at home.  I work 3 days/week and have always pumped at work.  DS has never taken a bottle, and only drinks a couple oz of expressed milk while I am away, so I have been donating to a mom near me with a micropreemie.  I've noticed recently that I am not pumping as much.  Is this just par for the course after one year?  I did get my first period at about 1 year.  The pump has new valves/membranes etc.

I would like to continue donating to this baby for a little while, I'm just wondering if anyone else has any experience with this.  TIA.

  • I am EPing right now and baby is 13.5 months (stopped BFing at 10 months when she had surgery and refused afterwards).  I have noticed my supply has dropped this past month.  I BF my older child til 2 and I know my supply did drop a lot the second year as he was eating more and more food and the need for milk was less.

  • DS is 15 months and I haven't pumped in awhile but wouldn't expect too much to come out honestly.  He is only using it as a supplement to the food he is eating so there's not that much of a "need" for lots of it anymore.  I think this is normal. That's awesome that you're donating though, love it!

  • Your body really starts to stop responding to the pump around 9 months from reading others and my own experiences. It's great that you are doing what you're doing but short of taking supplements (fenugreek and domperidone) I don't really know how you'd be able to pump more. It's less likely you'll be able to increase pumping the closer you get to a year.
