CranioSacral Therapy?

I saw an LC today because I have a blister on my nipple at the base. My son is almost 11 weeks and I felt really comfortable BF around 6/7 weeks. This is the first pain I've had since.

She recommended craniosacral therapy, through a chiropractor for babies that are "still" having feeding issues.

My son is in the 95th% for weight and I  haven't had issues for weeks. So I dont think he is having issues, just something different happened. Does anyone know about this? Support it or not? I hadn't even heard of it, so now I am researching.

Re: CranioSacral Therapy?

  • My mom does it (giving) and it makes me feel a ton better. She worked on DD's head as well as she had some nasty bruising from her journey out (got stuck and face up). It is very non-invasive but can seem/be very ..mmm...disbelieving( cant find right word) in the medical community)

  • I would get ask your doctor about potential risks for what is considered a "fringe" therapy.  I would also consult with another LC as I am uncertain why a recent blister when your nursing has been going well otherwise would make her suggest any intervention other than something to correct a faulty latch.

  • I went to massage school and we have a few classes in cs, fascinating stuff! very gentle, just holds, NO forceful manipulation. if you are curious I would read some stuff by Upledger and do some research. its very safe and cant hurt to try :)

This article show how important it is to find a reliable CS practitioner. Done right (or at least the way my mom learned/ is cert'd) there is NO forcible movement of any body parts, especially the fragile head and neck. It is a very light and still touch and there is no way it can cause harm.
