Bumpers safe?

Tell me when can you use the bumper? My friend told me that when they can roll around it is ok to use them. This doesn't sound accurate to me. My ds got his leg stuck in the slats last night and the poor baby was so upset. (Mommy was more upset) I almost couldn't get his leg out. Opinions??

Re: Bumpers safe?

  • I've been using one since the day DD came home. She has not suffocated. She has woken up with her head squished into it, and I'm glad it was there because she would have been squished up against the rail and that would have hurt her. ~A

    Same here?

  • The breathable bumpers are a great compromise.
  • We've used ours since day one without any problems.

  • we always used a bumper, and never had a problem with it. i tried to take the bumper away and ds cried until i put it back in the crib!
  • I would assume bumpers are okay since he is rolling around, but we are not putting one in, because DS stands in his crib all the time now, and I know he would find a way to stand on his bumper. Our pedi also recommended that we still don't use one.
  • we use one with no problems and i'm not worried about it in the slightest.
  • We weren't using one until last week. DS started to get his limbs stuck between the slats, and also was sleeping with his head up against the wood (which left a mark on his head...poor little guy!) We know that traditional bumpers are not safe, so we went with this instead:

?We like it a lot. No chance of suffocation from it. For those saying that they use a bumper and haven't had a problem...I'm not sure I get it. I mean, you don't have a problem until there's a problem, and then it's too late, no??
