Food Allergy

milk protein and soy free snacks

hi everyone! i am having my son's first birthday party and one of the guests (14mo old) has an allergy to milk protein and soy. do you have any recommendations for snacks that I can offer for him that would be safe?! TIA!

Re: milk protein and soy free snacks

  • The easy answer is fresh fruit and veggies. If you wanted, you could make a recipe from mspimama.com, she has lots of good stuff that is easy to make and no one else will be able to tell it's dairy/soy free. Unfortunately, there aren't really any store bought snacks that will work with the exception of Enjoy Life brand foods. Rice krispy treats are easy to modify, just use almond milk and earth balance spread.

  • Its very nice that you are considering the needs of your guest, and I agree with PP about fruit/veggies (I'm sure you could find crackers or something that is dairy/soy free also). Most likely though, the 14 month old's mom will bring something safe for her LO to snack on, so I wouldn't stress about it too much.

  • I agree that fruit and veggies are great (don't let there be any dip in the middle or near the fruit/veggies).  I wouldn't go to the trouble of trying to make anything.  Personally, I don't trust anything anyone else makes (it's never worked out for me, it is too easy to accidentally include soy/dairy) and I always bring our own food.
